"I would like to say thank you for a brilliant experience during lunch today. Front of house were welcoming, attentive and humorous, and are a credit to the reputation of the restaurant. When one of the waiters realised that our meal was in celebration of our Anniversary, we were surprised with an ice cream bombe before we left! The food from the lunch menu was amazing and the sommeliers wine choices matched the flavours perfectly. Oh and the custard tart was the best dessert to ever pass my lips. We will be back again, next time for the prestige menu!"
"A warm welcome from reception, quickly attended to by friendly staff. Explanations and recommendations were offered and when we asked to have a tasting menu dish as an a la carte starter this was no problem, indeed the waiter had offered this in his welcome. As a welcome it was first class and really relaxed us for our meal, safe in the feeling we would be looked after and made to feel welcome. Service throughout was very professional but with a relaxed, friendly edge that is rarely found in top-end places. All the food was delicious (quail, turbot, suckling pig) but the stars were the desserts; we agreed that the peanut parfait and custard tart were the best desserts we have ever eaten in any restaurant (far exceeding those with the third star that the MW team richly deserve). We felt genuinely looked after and that they had appreciated our business, which does not always feel the case (it can often feel like a restaurant is doing you a favour letting you eat). A fine, fine restaurant with no flaws, a memorable experience and somewhere you want to return to as soon as possible."
"My wife and I belong Edinburgh and we had planned to visited Marcus' restaurant in the autumn of 2010 after a long standing 'must do' (we had to cancel in 2009 due to schedule issues). And so we arrived and were greeted with the most heartwarming welcome we've ever had. The Prestige menu/meal was faultless and the rapport we struck up with the front of house was terrific...and that wasn't hard. I write this in Feb 2011 and once again we find ourselves with duel business trips to London and have booked into the restaurant. I think I'm more than excited this time than the last time...!!! This time I need to grab a copy of Marcus' cookbook! Marcus you have a great team and your spirit shines through."
